The Department of Foreign Affairs in Ireland can confirm and clarify that under the reconfirmed terms of the Common Travel Area (CTA), Irish citizens will continue to have the right to live and work in the UK without any visa or work permit requirement.

under the Common Travel Area (CTA), Irish and British citizens move freely and reside in either jurisdiction and enjoy associated rights and entitlements including the right to reside, to work, to study and to access social security benefits and health services, and to vote in local and national parliamentary elections. Following the UK’s withdrawal from the European Union, both Irish citizens in the UK and British citizens in Ireland continue to enjoy the associated rights and entitlements.”

‎Please be reassured, therefore, that Irish acts will continue to be able to work and tour in the UK as they do now.
‎The Common Travel Area pre-dates Irish and UK membership of the EU and is not dependent on it.
‎The Governments of Ireland and the UK signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) concerning the Common Travel Area (CTA) in May 2019, reaffirming their commitment to maintaining the CTA in all circumstances.

‎In addition, further to recent announcements regarding the introduction of a points-based immigration system from 2021, the UK Government has confirmed that Irish citizens will continue to be able to enter and live in the UK as they do now.
